The CN Gradebook can be accessed from the left menu of each course. This article will focus on managing GradeBook items.
Part 1: Manage Each GradeBook Item (the Table View)
For each GradeBook item, instructors can hover over the title cell to view the complete item name and its due date (if there is one).
Hovering over the bottom-right corner of the title cell will bring up a settings gear icon. Click it to access a series of item management options.
Edit Item:
You will be able to edit the GradeBook item, like this one:
Edit Grade Display:
You can choose a grade display format. By default, scores of individual assignments are displayed in numerical points and the course grade is in letter grade with +/-.
Mute or Unmute Item
Muted items will not release scores to students. Read this article for details.
Edit Missing Grade
Through this feature, instructors can quickly populate a score for all students who do not currently have a score on the assignment. It could be 0.
Message Students
Through this feature, you can send emails to a specific group of students based on their submission status or performance.
Hide/Unhide Item
Hidden items will not appear in student GradeBook and their score will not be calculated into the course grade. Read this article for details.
Delete Item
Please be careful when executing a deletion because once a GradeBook item is deleted, student submissions on this item will be deleted as well.
Add Grader
By default, only course instructors have access to course DropBox and GradeBook. While you can give a TA, Instructional Designer, or Field Expert full access to these pages from their entry on Roster, you can also grant them permission to grade a specific GradeBook item from here.
Part 2: Manage Assignments and Categories (the List View)
If you prefer managing GradeBook items in a list view, reorder them, or put them into categories, click the "Manage Assignments & Categories" button from the top-left of the GradeBook page.
You will then see all of the GradeBook items in this list view. You can use the gear icon to edit and delete them, use the eye icon to hide them from students, and use the up and down arrows to move them around. You can also click the nine-dot icon on the left to drag and move each item.
If you use the CN Pathway LMS, you see an additional icon. It takes you to the associated activity.
At the top of the page, there are two important buttons. The green "+Create Assignment" button will allow you to create new GradeBook items. If you are going to do so, make sure you will link to these items from an activity or task to better guide students. The blue "Manage Categories" button will allow you to create categories to group assignments and assign category weights.
In this example, I created three categories and enabled category weights.
