On July 17, 2023, CN released its new CN Grader tool in the beta version. This grading tool provides a dual-panel interface and file annotation capabilities to make assignment grading a smoother experience.
Please note that at this moment CN Grader is only available to CN Channels that have requested it.
Instructors grade student submissions with CN Grader
Instructors can access the CN Grader tool in DropBox from the blue button under the grade entry box.
This tool is available for the following assignment submission types:
- File/multimedia
- Google Drive Assignment >> Students upload files from their Google Drive
For the other Google Drive Assignment types, instructors should click the submitted Google Docs links to view and annotate directly on students' Google Docs.
External Tool assignments are typically graded automatically following grading logic defined by external tools. A final score is passed back to CN by the external tool.
This is inside the CN Grader tool. A submitted file/content is displayed on the left. Currently, only PDF files can be annotated by instructors and students. CN sends a notification to students when their file is annotated by an instructor. Additionally, if a student comments on their instructor's annotation, CN sends a notification to that instructor (being developed).
Besides viewing and annotating submitted content, instructors can do the following things inside the CN Grader:
- Switch to another assignment
- Switch to another student
- Download the annotated file
- Switch to another submission of the current student
- Switch to other files/content in the current submission and download the original files (without annotations)
- Enter a score. If a rubric has been set up, the instructors will grade the submission in the rubric table.
- Leave the student an overall comment/feedback, which may include multimedia, such as short video, audio, image, and file attachments.
Students view feedback in CN Grader
Once a File/multimedia or uploaded Google Drive assignment is graded, students will find the blue "View Feedback" button under their score either on the corresponding activity in Pathway courses,
Or, in student DropBox for Classic courses.
Clicking the "View Feedback" button will take them to the CN Grader, where they can read annotations left by their instructor on PDF files. If the Comments do not appear automatically, click the comment bubble icon to open up the Comments panel.
In addition to viewing instructor annotations, students can do the following things inside the CN Grader:
- Download the annotated file
- Switch to another submission on the same assignment
- Switch to other files/content in the current submission and download the original files (without annotations)
- View grade in rubric, if one has been set up for the assignment
