Please note:
1. Google Drive Assignment is only available in institution courses. It is not available in personal courses.
2. The "Google Drive Assignment >> Students generate Google Docs copy from template" submission type was removed in Aug 2024 due to low usage and the scope restrictions by Google.
Google Drive Assignment is an assignment submission type in CN. This article will explain how it works.
Instructor Creates Google Drive Assignment
Option 1: Students upload file from their Google Drive
Select Students upload file from their Google Drive as the Submission Type. Students will be prompted to upload a file from their Google Drive to CN when they submit the assignment.
Option 2: Students link to file from their Google Drive
Select Students link to file from their Google Drive as the Submission Type. Students will be prompted to select a file from their own Google Drive when they submit the assignment. Instructors directly access the Google Docs file to grade.
Make sure the entire form is complete and click Save. The assignment has now been created.
Students Submit Google Drive Assignment and Instructor Grades Submissions
Option 1: Students upload file from their Google Drive
If the assignment is set to Students upload file from their Google Drive, when students submit the assignment, they see this pop-up window.
They simply click the "Upload File from Google Drive" link to select a file from their Google Drive and submit the assignment. A copy of the file will then be uploaded to CN. A new submission entry will appear in the course DropBox for the instructor to view/download the file to grade.
Option 2: Students link to file from their Google Drive
If the assignment is set to Students link to file from their Google Drive, when students submit the assignment, they see this pop-up window.
They simply click the "Link to File from Google Drive" link to select a file from their Google Drive and submit the assignment. A new submission entry will appear in the course DropBox, where the instructor can click the Google Drive link to directly access the student's Google Docs file.
If students may need to submit non-Google files or multiple Google files to an assignment, you need to use the more flexible “File/Multimedia” submission type and guide students to submit the URL of each Google file and give you permission to comment.
