Please note: Google Drive Assignment is only available in institution courses. It is not available in personal courses.
Google Drive Assignment is an assignment submission type in CN. This article will explain how it works.
Instructor Creates Google Drive Assignment
Option 1: Students generate Google Docs copy from template
Under this option, instructors select a Google Doc file from their Google Drive as a template. When students work on the assignment, they will get their own Google Doc copy generated based on the template file. These student copies will reside in your Google Drive>>course name folder >> assignment name folder.
Step 1: Select Students generate Google Docs copy from template as the Submission Type, and click the blue link "Choose Template File from Google Drive".
Step 2: if your CN account has not been connected to your Google Drive, you will need to allow CN to access your Google Drive. Then, you will see Google Docs files from your Google Drive in this pop-up. Select the file you would like to use as the template for this assignment.
You will see the selected Google Docs file appears like this. Please also fill out other fields on this GradeBook item form.
Option 2: Students upload file from their Google Drive
Select Students upload file from their Google Drive as the Submission Type. Students will be prompted to upload a file from their Google Drive to CN when they submit the assignment.
Option 3: Students link to file from their Google Drive
Select Students link to file from their Google Drive as the Submission Type. Students will be prompted to select a file from their own Google Drive when they submit the assignment. Instructors directly access the Google Docs file to grade.
Make sure the entire form is complete and click Add Item. The assignment has now been created.
Students Submit Google Drive Assignment and Instructor Grades Submissions
Case 1
If the assignment is set to Students generate Google Docs copy from template, when students submit the assignment, they see this pop-up window.
Click "Open Google Docs Assignment" will generate their own Google Docs copy and take them there to edit it. Once students generate their own Google Docs copy, the blue SUBMIT will become active. When students are ready to submit the assignment, they click the button, and then a submission entry will appear in the course DropBox, where their instructor can click the link to directly access the corresponding student Google Docs copy.
Instructors can also go to their Google Drive to view student copies following this folder hierarchy: Google Drive>>course name folder >> assignment name folder.
Please note: institutions may set up a school-wide Google Drive folder to host all student Google assignment copies. Please read this article for details. If your institution set up the school-wide Google Drive folder, student copies will reside in the school Google Drive, instead of the instructor’s.
Case 2
