CN Pathway courses support instructors to grade student created posts and polls. In this article, a Post or Poll type of Graded assignment will be created to demonstrate the process of creating an activity and linking it with GradeBook item, the student submission, the instructor assessment, and the GradeBook view.
Instructor Creates Post or Poll Activity
To create a graded Post or Poll activity, instructors select that as the activity type when creating a new activity in a Pathway course. Here we will use Prompt Learners to Create Post as an example.
After filling out the assignment name and instructions, select When they receive a passing score (grading required).
Note: there is one other option for "Activity Marked as Complete": As soon as they submit. Select this option when you do not plan to grade student created posts.
Next, select Add New GradeBook Item to begin creating a GradeBook item for this activity.
Note: if you have created GradeBook items, you may link to them directly.
Next, the GradeBook Item creation form will open. The name should automatically populated based on the assignment activity name. Description is optional - if you have given detailed instructions on the assignment activity form, you can leave it blank. Fill out other settings. Once done, click Add Item.
After your GradeBook item is added, all that's left is to add the minimum points that students need to earn to mark this activity as complete on the course path, and then click Save Activity. You have successfully created a Post or Poll type graded assignment.
You can edit the gradebook item associated with this activity at any time by clicking the Edit button next to Select Gradebook Item
Student Submits Post
After the activity has been created, students will see it from the course path and be able to submit.
Students click the Create a Post button and enter their post.
After a student submits their work, they will see the post in the post feed below it.
Instructor Grades Student Posts in DropBox
To view posts for this activity, click the View Submissions button next to the activity name.
From there, you will be taken to the CN DropBox tool to view the student posts.
You can use the score entry box to the right to grade the student post. You can leave a comment on the post directly if you want to give the student some feedback. But, please note that the comment on the post will be visible to others in the class.
After the post is graded, students will be able to see their score above the post on the Post activity page.
View GradeBook
Both instructors and students can see their recorded scores in the GradeBook.
From the Menu tab, select GradeBook. From there, you can see all students and all of their scores for the activities in the course. Learn more about GradeBook Management.
Students can view all of the GradeBook items as well as their grades.
