Add skill tags to your portfolio. This helps describe the skills you demonstrated in each part of your portfolio and help you find other users who also have the same skill--academic network can be developed from here!
Add Skills to Showcases
First, create a new showcase or edit an existing showcase. At the bottom of the detailed showcase section, you should see a field that says "Skills Demonstrated in This Section." Click inside the field to start typing your skills.
As you start typing, a dropdown will appear with suggestions of tags based on what you type. You may click on any of the suggestions in the dropdown to add that skill to your showcase. You can also create your own tags. No need to type #, it is automatically generated.
After a skill has been added, it will appear below the input field as a blue tag. If you need to remove a skill tag for whatever reason, you can click on X icon inside the tag.
Note: You can only remove tags from a showcase while editing the showcase.
Once you're done adding tags, you can save the showcase from the blue SUBMIT button. After the showcase is saved, you should see all the tags you've added at the bottom of the showcase. Clicking any of the tags will filter all of the content on your ePortfolio that has been tagged the same skill.
Add Skills to Your Documents and Folders
You can add skill tags to documents and folders. To do so, simply find the Add Skill Tags field on the creation or edit window. You may add as many skills needed. Once done click SUBMIT.
Once a file or folder is tagged, its pop-over card will display the demonstrated skills. Clicking any of the tags will filter all of the content on your ePortfolio that has been tagged the same skill.
Adding Skills to Your Introduction
You can add skills to your Introduction on the About section. Click on the edit icon next to Introduction to start.
Anywhere inside the text box, you can start typing out a hashtag. Once you start typing a hashtag and the skill, the dropdown of suggestions for skills will appear. Once again, you can click on any of the options to add the skill to your introduction.
Once you're done adding skills to your Introduction, click on SAVE CHANGES.
You should see two copies of your tags, one where you typed it, and the other at the bottom of the Introduction section. The list at the bottom is just a way to show all the tags you added here at once. Clicking any of the tags will filter all of the content on your ePortfolio that has been tagged the same skill.
Adding Skills to Badges
As the owner of your ePortfolio, you are not allowed to add skills tags to your badges. Only badge issuers (either institution CN admins or course instructors) can do so. You can find the tagged skills on the pop-over card of a badge. Clicking any of the tags will filter all of the content on your ePortfolio that has been tagged the same skill.
Skills Section
The Skills section at the top of your portfolio is a way to show all of your skills in one place. Whenever you add skills somewhere in your portfolio, they will also be displayed here. You can use the field that says "Enter skills" to add more skills to this section as well.
Note: You can remove tags from this section. The tags removed from here will still remain on its original section (Showcase, Documents, About, Badges).
Any new skills that you add here that you have not added to any other part of your portfolio will show up as a gray tag, indicating they have not been substantiated with artifacts. If you later add that tag somewhere else in your portfolio, this will then become a blue tag. Again, clicking any of the tags will filter all of the content on your ePortfolio that has been tagged the same skill.
Filter Portfolio by a Skill Tag
If you click on a skill tag, it will filter the portfolio to only show the parts that contain that skill tag. You can do this when viewing your own portfolio or somebody else's portfolio. When filtering a portfolio by a tag, you can click on the "Return to Full ePortfolio View" button at the top to return to the normal view of the portfolio.
View Users Who Also Have the Same Skill Tag
If you see this icon next to a skill tag, that means there are other users who also have this same skill.
If you click on the icon, a window will appear showing you the top users on the CN who also used the same skill tag.
Search Members Based on Skills/Competencies
The skills tag added on ePortfolios will also be used for advanced member search. To start a search, click the Search Members at the top of your ePortfolio page.
You will be taken to this search page as below. You may use one or multiple filters for a search. Refer to this article for details. In this example, let's search members using only the Skills/Competency filter. Type in the skill you would like to use. Please note that you don't need to type #. The matching suggestions will show under the typing box, you can select the one that matches your search.
After entering the searched term, you will see the search results of members who have tagged themselves with the skill. Clicking on any of them will take you to their ePortfolio.
