Introduce the Feature
To help CN users build their profile/ePortfolio, CN automatically takes information from the user-uploaded PDF resume file to fill the following sections if they are empty:
- Links to websites (located in the bottom-right corner of the header)
- Bio (located in the About section)
- Skills
- Experience
- Education
- Showcases (if you have Projects on your resume)
Important logic about this feature:
- PDF Only: Right now, this feature only works with PDF files. Resumes in Word and other file formats can be uploaded but will not fill your ePortfolio.
- No Overwrite: Only empty sections will be populated, except for Skills. We add additional skills from your resume to your ePortfolio. Existing content that is already on your resume will remain unchanged.
- No Preview: This feature will not ask you to prove the parsed data before populating the sections.
- Please Review & Edit: This automated feature may not always fill in the data accurately. It might contain spacing issues or missing data. Once your PDF resume is uploaded, please carefully review the auto-filled sections to ensure your details are correct and set your preferred visibility.
- Editable: You can edit the populated information at any time.
Upload a Resume
There are two ways to access this feature.
Option 1: From the resume upload pop-up
If you have not uploaded a resume to the About section, when you visit your profile/ePortfolio you may encounter the pop-up window below. Click “+ Upload your PDF Resume” to proceed.
Option 2: From the RESUME part in the About section
If you missed or skipped the pop-up, or you have uploaded a resume before, you can always upload a PDF resume in the About section. Click "Edit" (if you have uploaded a resume before) and “+Upload Resume” to proceed.
Review Populated Sections
After uploading your PDF resume, you will see a confirmation message on the top of your ePortfolio page. It tells you which sections have been updated.
Since this automated technique may not be completely accurate, please make sure you will review the populated sections and make necessary edits. In the example below, each Expereince entry should be edited to add the missing information.
We hope this feature will help you quickly set up a basic ePortfolio with minimal effort. For further assistance and feedback, please the CN helpdesk at support@thecn.com.
