File Types
While CN supports almost all file types, we recommend that you upload large video files to a video platform (such as Youtube, Vimeo, Kaltura, VidGrid, etc.) or Cloud storage app (Google Drive, Box, Microsoft Cloud, etc.) and then embed or link to these videos on CN.
File Size
We have made some changes to the allowed size per file on Jan 18, 2022. Please see details for each account type:
1. Public account (including expired institution account)
- Upload up to 10MB/file
- There is no limit on the number of files you can upload
- All of your files will be stored on CN and will be available forever
2. Institution account
- Upload up to 200MB/file (unless your institution has signed up for 1GB/file for you). Individual users can always upgrade to a CN Premium account to upload up to 1GB/file. Institutions can also reach out to the CN team to upgrade to a larger file size for their members.
- There is no limit on the number of files you can upload
- After your institution stops licensing CN, files larger than 200MB/file that you have uploaded will be removed. You will receive a notification 30 days before the removal. You can download important files (see instructions below) or upgrade to a CN Premium account to keep your large files on CN.
3. Premium account
- Upload up to 1GB/file
- There is no limit on the number of files you can upload
- After your premium account expires, files larger than 200MB/file that you have uploaded to CN will be removed. You will receive a notification 30 days before the removal. You can download important files (see instructions below) or renew your premium membership to keep your large files on CN.
Note: if you are both an institution and premium account, your file size limit follows the larger cap.
Manage Your Files (Reuse, Delete, Download)
When you try to upload a file to CN, most of the time, the "My CN File Repository" window will pop up. From the left menu, click My Uploaded Files. Then, you will be able to manage the files that you have uploaded to CN.
First, you can filter or search files:
Once you find the files you are looking for, you may select them to reuse. This will save your time and effort re-uploading the original files to CN.
When you hover over a file, you will also see the options to download or delete the file. The download option will allow you to save a copy of the file to your local computer.
If you have any questions about uploading and managing files on CN, please contact help@thecn.com.
