The task tool is the backbone of a course page; it is the place where instructors can create lessons, provide resources, outline course content and give assignments. The task tool is beneficial in keeping the course and students on track.
There are two ways to build tasks. One way is to import tasks from previous courses, and the other is to create them from scratch. To learn more about importing tasks, go to our Import Tasks article. To learn how to create tasks, follow the steps below.
STEP1: Click on the “create new task” button at the top of your course homepage – this button only appears if you are creating a task for the first time. Once a task is created, you can go to the plus sign next to the green Tasks tab to create a new task.

Use the following figure to follow steps 2-7 to create a task
STEP2: Title your Task and decide if you want to highlight it with a color
STEP3: Choose a visibility setting
STEP4: Create Task Content
STEP5: Add Smartlinks
Smartlinks are links generated by instructors that can link to external content, like prompting students to visit a link or download a file, to course content, like quizzes, posts, polls, etc. or to activities, like prompting students to create their own post, etc. For more information on Smartlinks, read our Smartlinks article.
STEP6: Embed Multimedia
STEP7: Click on “Create Task” to save your content
