How to add CN ePortfolio (Course-level) to Schoology as an LTI tool (Admin Guide)
Hint: to ensure the best user experience, please kindly advise your users to use Google Chrome or Firefox browsers to access CN.
Adding a basic LTI v1.1 tool can be done in three different ways:
1. Add CN ePortfolio (Course-level) in the app center organization-wide
2. Add CN ePortfolio (Course-level) in the app center to only specific courses
3. Added to specific courses by an instructor
Option 1. Add CN ePortfolio (Course-level) in the app center organization-wide
Click this link: https://app.schoology.com/apps/profile/6658935344
Then select “Install LTI App”
Then select “Add to Organization” in the pop-up window
Select Install by clicking the blue button, then make sure the box is checked and submit.
Once you submit, click on configure.
Add information into the highlighted sections shown below:
- Consumer key: generated consumer key (we will share this information with you separately, please do not share this confidential credential)
- Shared secret: generated shared secret (we will share this information with you separately, please do not share this confidential credential)
After saving the settings, CN ePortfolio (Course-level) will show up on the left-hand menu of all of the organization’s courses. When students click on the link, this window will appear. Students can choose to log in with an existing account or create their new CN account. This only shows up the first time a user clicks on the link. Once they complete this click-through, they will automatically be directed to CN ePortfolio (Course-level) within the Schoology course window.
Option 2. Add CN ePortfolio (Course-level) in the app center to only specific courses
Click this link: https://app.schoology.com/apps/profile/1558248695
Then select “install app”
Select “Install for Me” in the pop-up window
Then select which courses you would like to add CN ePortfolio (Course-level). Then click Install.
Next, go to your organization's app store – from the home page.
Select organizational apps
Select configure next to CN ePortfolio (Course-level) and enter information into the highlighted sections shown below. Save when finished.
After saving the settings, CN ePortfolio (Course-level) will show up on the left-hand menu of only the course selected. When students in those courses click on the link, this window will appear. Students can choose to log in with an existing account or create their new CN account. This only shows up the first time a user clicks on the link. Once they complete this click-through, they will automatically be directed to CN ePortfolio (Course-level) within the Schoology course window.
Option 3. Add CN ePortfolio (Course-level) as an External tool to specific courses as an instructor
Step 1: Add the tool
Go to the course and choose course options on the left side menu. From the menu select, “External Tool Providers”
Then click on “Add External Tool Provider”
Enter information in the highlighted sections below
- Tool Name: CN ePortfolio
- Consumer key: generated consumer key (we will share this information with you separately, please do not share this confidential credential)
- Shared secret: generated shared secret (we will share this information with you separately, please do not share this confidential credential)
- URL: https://www.thecn.com/program/lti/course
Then submit.
The external tool you added should show up like in the example below.
Step 2: Adding CN ePortfolio (Course-level) as an Activity in a given course
Go back to the course homepage and select the “Add Materials” drop-down. Select “Add File/Link/External Tool” from the list.
A pop-up will appear. Select “External Tool”
Fill out the form exactly like the following example. The Title* may be customized, such as CN ePortfolio if the ePortfolio will be used primarily. Then submit.
The link should show up on the course page as the following example.
