There are two steps for Moodle admins to add the CN ePortfolio LTI tool to Moodle's global navigation menu for all institution users:
Step1: Adding ePortfolio as a site-wide LTI tool
Step2: Option 1: Adding ePortfolio as a link in the Courses block
Option 2: Adding ePortfolio as a link in a global block
Step 1. Adding ePortfolio as a site-wide LTI tool
From the “Administration” block, which by default should be on the left of your dashboard, click the following options in order:
Site Administration->Plugins->Activity Modules->LTI->Manage external tool types
Once the “Manage external tool types” page opens, click on “Add external tool configuration”
Admin can use the following information to fill out the form:
- Tool name: CN ePortfolio
- Tool base URL: https://www.thecn.com/program/lti/portfolio
- Consumer key: generated_consumer_key (we will share this information with you separately, please do not share this confidential credential)
- Shared secret: generated_shared_secret (we will share this information with you separately, please do not share this confidential credential)
- Check the box next to “Show tool type when creating tool instances”
- Default launch container: New window
After this step, we have a sample tool created. The result should look like this:
Step 2.
Option 1: Adding ePortfolio as a link in the Courses block
To begin, enable "Turn editing on" from the home page as a Moodle admin.
Then, click the Add an Activity dropdown in the Courses block and select External Tool
Type in the activity name (like CN ePortfolio), and then select CN ePortfolio from the dropdown of External Tool Type. Then, save.
The external tool will now be available to all users on their Moodle home page.
Option 2: Adding ePortfolio as a link in a global block
From the Links block on the left side, click Add/Edit Links
Then, click Add Link
Give the link a name, and include the Moodle URL to the LTI tool. This can be found by opening that LTI tool inside Moodle and copying the URL found in your browser.
For example, you can open the link created in the previous step:
Click Save changes and return to the home page. The link to the LTI tool in Moodle is now on your link list.
If you want this navigation block to stay on the page across all pages in Moodle, first click Turn Editing On:
Then, click the Settings gear on the block you want to stay on the page, and click Configure.
Then select display through the entire site as the Page Contexts option.
All users will now see the link to their CN ePortfolio on their Moodle profile and dashboard pages.
Clicking the link will directly open the user's CN ePortfolio.
