STEP 1: select a course category (possible step)
If you are the first few people entering a new course in CN Post, you will be prompted to select a course category. This enables CN to connect your course with other courses of the same or similar subject. (hint: if you are a student, don’t worry if the category you selected is not accurate. When your course instructor enters the course, CN will ask him/her to verify your selection).
STEP 2: read the CN instruction post.
The first time you go to a course in CN Post, you will see this instruction post. Read it and watch the CN Post quick-start tutorial video. This will help you get onboard CN faster.
STEP 3: familiarize yourself with course Anar Seeds goal and rules
Before creating any content and interacting with others, you want to study the course Anar goal and rules. The Anar number shown on the top navigation bar is the seeds you have currently earned in the course. Clicking it will open up more information, including the course Anar goal (your course instructor may or may not have set up one), your Anar progress bar, and the Anar table, which tells you how to earn seeds in the specific course.
STEP 4: create posts
Now, it’s time to create a post. You can create a post to introduce yourself, share course related materials, reflect on a learning topic, or ask your class a question. Remember to use hashtags to label your discussion topic. (hint: you can also click the red pie chart tool to create a poll. You will discover how engaging it is).
STEP 5: filter posts
If there are already activities in your course, you can use the Sort/Filter By options on the right to find specific posts.
You could also use hashtags to filter posts and comments on specific topics.
You also have the option to switch the post feed to course groups or spaces outside of your class: Global Class, Campus Network, and CN Communities (i.e. people you have followed and communities you have joined on CN).
Note, you may not have access to all of these post feeds if your institution admin has disabled them.
STEP 6: rate and comment on posts
When you see an interesting post, you may rate the quality of the post and comment on the post. Remember to always be respectful and provide constructive feedback.
STEP 7: view Roster
From the left menu, you can visit the course Roster to look at other members in the course and view your own detailed participation data.
STEP 8: build your CN profile/ePortfolio
You are also encouraged to visit your CN profile/ePortfolio to edit your personal information and share learning artifacts. It will help your peers get to know you and you will also benefit from having a complete academic ePortfolio in future job searches.
